This week I am featuring a church that is near and dear to my wife Mary Jo's heart. It is the parish she grew up in. Actually she lived right across the street from Our Lady Of Victory Parish her entire life before marriage.
Although during my wife's latter high school years right up to the time of our marriage this church did not exist. They would have mass and other services in the school cafeteria while raising the money to build this church.
That didn't sit well with Mary Jo when it came time to get married. "Not in the school cafeteria" she said. So we got married in St Peter In Chains Cathedral downtown Cincinnati, which didn't please her pastor...but oh well. You only get married once. Well, that is our belief.
As I mentioned before, Mary Jo and her family grew up right across the street from OLV parish. Her parents passed away a few years ago and we sold the home she grew in. It was for the best. Although one of her brothers took a little longer letting go of all their parents life long possessions. They finally settled on where everything should go and I found a very worthy buyer that is still taking excellent care of the house today.
It was a cute 4 bedroom one bath cap cod. The garage was designed in the basement and entered from around the back. Although years ago her dad and brothers did away with the built-in garage and built a detached garage next to the house.
It's amazing back then Mary Jo's family consisted of her mom & dad, three brothers, and for quite a few years MJ's grandmother lived with them. That was 7 people living in a 3 bedroom, one bath home without air conditioning. WOW. And they were considered wealthy because of the neighborhood they lived in and the high schools they attended. Elder for the boys and Seton for MJ.
This home sold in July of 2001 for $102,500 in only 5 days on the market. I listed for $104,900. Her parents paid around $18,000 just after they got married around 1945.
I wouldn't fret just yet. The market will bounce back to favorable standards once again. Mary Jo's parents saw the depression and survived. We can survive this if we continue to do what we are suppose to. That is take advantage of the great interest rates and home prices and go out and buy one. There is no good reason to be renting or living in a home that is way too small. If I were around back Mary Jo and family were crammed into that little house I would have insisted on them buying a little larger home. They just didn't do that back then.
God Bless You and pray for all of our troops to come home safe and for our Country leaders to make the right choices to help us get through this turmoil.
